Avatars: Taking yourself to the next level

Hey everybody!

Here is the avatar I created - I hope you like it!

Whenever I create a profile I use my picture as avatar (as you can see from my Gmail and Edmodo accounts) since I find it more professional. However, it was nice to go back to times when I created these kinds of avatars for fun.

I'm guessing it is self-evident by now, but I really love cats!

This avatar was made with a a Facebook app by Friskies called Catify yourself. You can just upload your picture or snap it right there.

My first choice for an avatar creator was the Pokemon Trainer Builder because I love Pokemon, but the webpage was not working too well and I gave up.

I also browsed through the links available in Edmodo, and it was funny because I used many of them in the past.


Here's some ideas to use avatars in the classroom:

Auttum Items, one of the thousand available dress-up games

• When creating an avatar students can put into practice a lot of vocabulary, especially clothing items, parts of the body and adjetives to describe them. This is especially useful with Dress Up Games. Most of those games are targeted to girls, so one should be careful when choosing them in order to appeal both girls and boys. 

• Students can also create avatars as visual aid when writing a short story. The characters can be vividly represented (and even be given a voice in apps such as Voki). This gives students the chance to make their stories come true and thus it makes it more appealing to them.

There's a site called Web Tools for Kids that has a whole section of avatar creators for kids, divided into different categories, such as monsters, superheroes and human characters (among others)
